Privacy Policy

1. No Accounts

PlainLetter does not require or offer user accounts. We do not ask for a username, password, or any persistent login.

2. What We Collect

• Your uploaded letter (temporarily). When you upload a document, it is used only to classify it and, if you choose to pay, to generate your explanation. It is not stored after your explanation has been generated and sent.
• Your email address. Collected at checkout, used solely to send you your explanation and payment receipt.
• Payment information. Handled entirely by our payment processor. We do not receive or store your card details.
• Basic technical data. Standard, non-identifying technical logs (such as request volume, used for rate-limiting and abuse prevention) may be kept briefly for security purposes. These do not include the content of your letter.

3. What We Don't Do

• We do not create an account or profile for you.
• We do not store your uploaded letter, its extracted text, or your explanation on our servers after it has been generated and delivered.
• We do not sell your information to third parties.
• We do not use your uploaded documents to train any AI model.

4. How Long We Keep Data

Your uploaded document and its extracted content: discarded immediately after your explanation is generated and sent (or immediately if your upload is declined at the free triage step). Your email address is retained only as needed to deliver your explanation and receipt, and for basic transaction records required for accounting and legal purposes.

5. Third Parties We Use

• Stripe — processes your payment. Your card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them.
• Anthropic (Claude API) — used to classify and interpret your uploaded document. Your document is sent to Anthropic's API solely to generate your explanation. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models, and are deleted from their systems within a limited retention window described in their published policy.
• Resend — used solely to deliver your explanation email.
• Cloudflare — hosts the website and processing infrastructure.

We do not share your uploaded letter or its content with any party beyond what's needed to generate and deliver your explanation.

6. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information in transit and during the brief period it is processed, including encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system can guarantee perfect security, but our design (no accounts, no long-term storage) is intended to minimize what there is to protect in the first place.

7. Children's Privacy

PlainLetter is not directed at, and should not be used by, children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
